PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya Chittaranjan traces its origin back to its establishment in the year 1986. It was founded to cater to the educational needs of the children of employees working at the Chittaranjan Locomotive Works (CLW), which is a significant industrial unit under the Indian Railways, located in Chittaranjan, West Bengal, India.

The primary objective behind the establishment of Kendriya Vidyalaya Chittaranjan was to provide quality education to the children of CLW employees, ensuring that they receive standardized education despite the frequent transfers of their parents within the Indian Railways system. The Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), which oversees the Kendriya Vidyalaya chain of schools across India, initiated the establishment of Kendriya Vidyalaya Chittaranjan to fulfill this purpose. Over the years, PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya Chittaranjan has grown into a prominent educational institution in the region, known for its academic excellence, holistic development approach, and emphasis on values-based education. It has consistently strived to maintain the highest standards of education while nurturing students in a conducive learning environment.
